Sandi Brewster-Walker lectures about the lives of courageous local men of color who hunted whales at the height of the New England whaling industry (1840-1860). Just decades before the Civil War these brave individuals experienced the thrills and hardships of this exciting career. Shipwrecks, desertions, journeys and destinations will be discussed. This program is for history lovers as well as genealogists.
